Traditonal Korean Hoodie - Dancheong Symbol & Pattern with Caligraphy - COLOUR
The symbol shown on the front and sleeve is from the traditional patterned art style of Dancheong (단청), which literally translates to 'cinnibar and blue-green'. Simply put, its referencing the colours traditionally used red and turquoise or blue. These patterns are found predominately in ancient architecture and wooden structures. You will see these patterns in any royal palace you visit in Seoul. The significance of the colours and flower patterns are to bring luck, fortune and happiness.
The back shows korean caligraphy, that is of a poem written by Kim Sowol (김소월) a famous and well regarded Korean poet that was active from 1902-1934. Its is from his poem called 'A flower is on a mountain'. The opening line of this poem writes: 'On a mountain flowers open, each flower opens, regardless of fall spring and summer, each flower opens..'
산에는 꽃 피네
꽃이 피네
갈 봄 여름 없이
꽃이 피네
An opening line, in our interpretation is to stay positive, no matter what weather life my bring!
